On Monday I gave a free, 2-hour presentation to local Wickenburg area business owners titled Top Google Local Ranking Factors for 2013 at the Wickenburg Chamber of Commerce.

During my presentation I reviewed Google’s 8 overall ranking factors:

  1. Place Page Signals
(Categories, Keyword in Business Title, Proximity, etc.)
  2. External Loc. Signals
(IYP/aggregator NAP consistency, Citation Volume, etc.)
  3. On-page Signals
(Presence of NAP, Keywords in Titles, Domain authority, etc.)
  4. Link Signals
(Inbound anchor text, Linking domain authority, Linking domain quantity, etc.)
  5. Review Signals
(Review quantity, Review velocity, Review diversity, etc.)
  6. Social Signals
(Google+ authority, Facebook likes, Twitter followers, etc.)
  7. Behavioral/Mob. Signals
(Clickthrough rate, Mobile clicks to call, Check-ins, Offers, etc.)
  8. Personalization
Personalization includes providing the searcher with the results that are most relevant for them while they are within a particular geographic location.

And the top 10 most important ranking factors that include:

  1. Proper category associations for your business
  2. Having a physical address in city of search
